Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: What kind of training do you work on in the day training program?
A: From basic manners to reactivity, I work on the skills your dog needs to improve their quality of life and relationship with you.
-
Q: What is your approach to training?
A: As a CPDT certified trainer, I am guided by the L.I.M.A. (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) training principles. This means that everything begins purely positive, but based on how your dog responds to training, tools may be introduced to maximize results. Tools are used to improve the human/dog relationship and are never used punitively. I will guide you through the reasoning for their use and you will be able to change direction about the use of a tool throughout the process. Tools are not always permanent.
-
Q: How long will it take to train my dog?
A: Every dog and every situation is different. While I cannot say how long training will take, assume approximately 6-10 sessions for basic manners and possibly longer for behavioral issues.
-
Q: If my dog is aggressive, do you guarantee to fix the issue?
A: Neither I nor anyone else can guarantee the future actions of any dog. I give you the tools and information necessary to help improve your relationship.
-
Q: Am I going to have to buy a lot of training equipment to train my dog?
A: Equipment may be necessary to help your training go smoothly. These can range from training treats to muzzles, a different collar or harness, or other items. I will always discuss their use in advance, allowing you to ask as many questions as necessary to ensure you're comfortable with their use. I always do my best to keep costs down for my clients while maximizing results.
